Mass immigration

http://www.canadaone.org/category/notes/ Mass immigration of fluent Americans to Canada has begun in the XIX-th century beginning-middle when in the USA existed : by means of the branched out organization of abolitionists ("the underground railway" has received the name), black slaves ran to Canada (then - a part of British Empire), free from slavery. However, formally this process by emigration was not considered, as legally slaves were not considered as citizens of the USA.
In 1822 in the USA the unique project has been created: American Colonizing the Society has started to buy up the earths in Africa and encouraged mass departure of black Americans for their historical native land. In 1847 natives of the USA declared creation of nowadays existing republic Liberia. The first president of Liberia Joseph Jenkins Roberts was black (and free) the native of the slaveholding State of Virginia. The USA throughout all this time were allies of Liberia and rendered to this country the considerable economic help. It is curious that many Liberians - descendants of natives of the USA - often come back in a New World and granting of the American citizenship by it demand.
Various attempts to organize mass emigration of black Americans to Africa with variable success proceeded till the end of 1920th years.
